149M Project Goes Public
The 12th February 2014 is now firmly in our minds with this being the date of the new Ferrari California reveal, ahead its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. This date has been publicised on online flyers for the ‘World Premiere’ of the 149M Project. The “M” is expected to stand for ‘Modificado’ to follow the process of previous models, including the 456M and the 575M which were modified versions of the 456 and 575 models. The new California has the possibility of using a turbocharged engine which is anticipated to become a typical feature on future Ferrari models. A V6 engine was considered, however Ferrari have allegedly chosen a 552bhp twin-turbo 3.8 litre V8 engine, which was first used in Maserati Quattroporte models. An official name is yet to be released, however it has been proposed the revised model will continue to hold the California label. Although there is still work to be done, Ferrari dealers are said to be taking pre-orders with first deliveries expected for May. The exterior design is said to be influenced by the F12 model, particularly the front-end with the headlights imitating the newer Ferrari models. Internally, the cabin has had a styling facelift with a new style dashboard and an updated multimedia system in place. Ferrari intends to reduce production levels of the revised California by 500 units per year, thus enabling them to regain exclusivity without waning profits. The price of the revised model is anticipated to be roughly the same as the current model, at £152,154.
