Alfa Romeo Revived with SUVs

In order to restore the power of the Italian brand, Alfa Romeo plan to launch eight new models by 2018, two of which are to be SUVs.

For 2016, expect a mid-size SUV from Alfa Romeo to rival the likes of the Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan. This is the fastest-growing sector for premium SUVs, so with the right engine range, Alfa Romeo are in with a chance at competing against the Audi SQ5 and Porsche Macan. To ensure the engines on a par with the appearance, Alfa Romeo are developing a range of four and six cylinder engines. Of these, there is a range topping V6 petrol engine set to produce 500bhp along with a diesel engine producing 350bhp, topping the 309bhp from the Audi SQ5.

The second Alfa Romeo SUV is likely to be the size of the Volvo XC90. Both SUVs are set to use the new rear wheel drive architecture and are to have a 50/50 weight distribution. This will give the SUV models much better handling, to match that of BMW and Jaguar models.

Alfa Romeo have given the styling of these models great importance and exclusive images have been released to show how the company intend to lure customers away from its German rival models. The appearance shows the models to have low rooflines, defined fronts and more prominent arches.

Alfa Romeo’s plans also include future models for late 2015 to rival the BMW 3 and 5 Series.
