Another Consecutive Month of Growth in August
The number of new cars sold in the UK so far this year is 9.4 per cent more than in 2013, with figures going over 1.5 million. August is typically a quieter month for the automotive industry with the impeding plate change encouraging buyers to postpone purchasing their new car. This being said, August 2014 saw a total of 72,163 new cars registered in the UK. This makes August the 30th month of consecutive growth and with September new registrations now well under way, this growth is expected to continue. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) consider the UK’s performance to be impressive in comparison to the rest of the EU; however they do expect the market to level out towards the end of the year. The Chief Executive of the SMMT believes customers are being enticed by competitive deals and a wider range of products, particularly PCP options.
