Another Winning Performance from McLaren

The McLaren 650S performance figures have been released, presenting it to be one second faster than the F1 at achieving 0-200km/h. To get a better idea of the McLaren 650S, take the McLaren 12C, improve the technology and design and you have it. The McLaren 650S coupe will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, alongside the Spider version.

The 650S uses a 3.8 litre twin turbo V8 engine. The power has been increased by 25bhp taking it to 641bhp and the torque has increased from 600Nm to 678Nm.  The 650S reaches 0-62mph in just 3 seconds, an improvement of 0.1 second. The time taken to accelerate from 0-125mph has also improved by 0.5 seconds, taking it to 8.4 seconds. McLaren have claimed their CO2 emissions have lowered to 275g/km, despite these performance improvements.

The 650S has been made to suit all driving styles; it’s louder and faster with better control for those who have a need for speed. On the other hand, it’s also better equipped, offering more comfort for those just wanting to kick back in style.

The front end has been inspired by the P1 and uses the same headlights. However, this new front end isn’t just for display purposes; it has permitted 40% more down force than the 12C at 150mph. Engineers have been working hard to improve the ability of the 650S through a new clutch which improves the shift time in manual gear and makes driving much smoother in automatic gear. The brakes have been recalibrated, making them snatch less at lower speeds. A new front splitter and door blades have been incorporated to smooth the airflow and larger air intakes have been added to cool the engine. Other improvements include carbon ceramic brakes, Sat-Nav, DAB radio, carbon fibre racing seats and a rear parking camera.

The 650S Coupe will be priced at £195,000 and the Spider at £215,000 with first deliveries expected for the end of March.
