Aston Martin reveal £250,000 all-electric Rapide E

Aston Martin have revealed details of its first all-electric car which is due to launch in 2019. The Rapide E will feature a 602bhp electric powertrain developed by Williams Advanced Engineering, taking the place of the 6 litre V12 found in the Rapide S. Only 155 units of the electric GT-supersaloon will be built, for an estimated £250,000.

An 800-volt battery with a 65khw capacity will generate 602bhp, 701lb ft of torque, a top speed of 155mph and a 0-60mph time under 4 seconds. Aston have confirmed a 310 mile range will be achievable from a 1 hour charge from a 800v/1000kW charger. Two electric motors will drive a rear wheel each, with a limited slip differential keeping the impressive torque figures in check. The four-door architecture remains the same, with tweaks being made to the body and underside to reduce drag and improve the aerodynamic efficiency.

Aston’s first electric car is a clear sign of its intent for the future, especially with rivals Porsche launching the Taycan next year.
