Aston Martin and Zagato unveil new concept
Aston Martin and the Italian design house, Zagato, have collaborated to design the stunning new Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept. The concept will make its public debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
The Aston Martin-Zagato partnership began back in 1960 and this is the 5th car they have designed together, combining their rich design history and innovative styling. The Vanquish Zagato Concept takes inspiration from The Vulcan, One-77, the DB11 and Zagato’s race-inspired designs.
Headed by Reichman and Zagato, the team has completely redesigned the bodywork in carbonfibre. The exterior styling remains prominently Aston inspired, however Zagato’s race-influenced forms can be seen in the distinctive ‘double-bubble roof’, a trademark design developed since the 1950s to accommodate helmets.
The concept features a new version of Aston’s trademark sculpted side-strike, as well as cutaways added to the front wing. The car receives a wraparound glasshouse, Vulcan inspired ‘bladed’ LED rear lights and wing mirrors from the One-77. The sculpted tail is reminiscent of the DB11 and features a retractable spoiler and luggage compartment with a rear hatch. Zagato’s classic rounded rear reflectors sit above the 4 exhaust exits on the sills.
The cabin’s bespoke upgrades include, anodized bronze rotary dials, premium carbonfibre and aniline leather finishes, unique seat trims and the Zagato logo features on the headrests and centre console.
The concept runs on a naturally aspirated 5.9-litre V12, which has been tweaked increasing power to 593bhp and estimated to deliver 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and 200mph flat out. The active dampers have also been tweaked to give the car more responsive handling.
The beautiful one-off concept will make its first official debut on the 21st May at Lake Como in Italy.
