Audi confirm luxury A9 e-tron

Audi has announced the development of a new electric luxury saloon. The A9 e-tron is set to be ready by 2020 and will be powered by three electric motors.

Audi are aiming to break into the larger electric car market, targeting the Tesla Model S and rivals Mercedes. Audi is aiming for 25% of their range to be battery-powered by 2025. The new saloon will follow on from Audi’s electric A6 e-tron SUV in 2018, sharing similar foundations.

The A9 e-tron will be four-door and four-wheel drive. The luxury electric car will run on 3 electric motors combined with a high-capacity battery. The car will have a significant range of up to 311 miles from one charge.

The electric motors will be split – two at the rear and one at the front, giving a combined power of between 429bhp and 496bhp. A 95kWh battery and a wireless inductive charging 11kWh battery will be fitted to the car.

The 2020 saloon will feature advanced technology such as level four autonomous driving, electronic torque vectoring and drive management systems. It will be Audi’s first car to feature level four autonomous driving capabilities.

Audi are yet to confirm performance and pricing for the A9 e-tron, however based on the A6 e-tron price tag expect the Saloon to cost upwards of £70,000.
