Audi unveils 2017 Q5

Audi revealed the new Q5 during the Paris Motor Show. The new SUV will be lighter and more spacious than the older generation.

The Q5 has been Audi’s bestselling SUV, the new model has been updated, restyled and built on a new platform. The new platform is a lightweight MLB chassis, from the VW line. The longitudinal set up reduces the car’s weight by 90kg and improves handling.  Five-stage air-suspension will be offered as an optional extra.

The mid-sized SUV comes with four-wheel drive for the first time. Audi’s Quattro system with Ultra technology will be offered as standard with some engines or as an optional extra on others. The system allows the rear axle to disengage to save fuel and reengage when four-wheel drive is necessary. The Q5 will be offered in a choice of two gearboxes, a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The new Q5, will initially be available in a choice of 5 engines; a 282bhp 3.0-litre TDI, a 2.0-litre TDI diesel with 148bhp, 161bhp or 187bhp and finally a 249bhp TFSI petrol engine. More engines will join the line-up post launch. Audi’s Drive Select will come as standard, featuring the same 5 modes as previous (Comfort, Efficiency, Auto, Dynamic and Individual), as well as two new additions.

In terms of styling, the new model resembles the sleeker Q7, featuring a new chrome grille and LED headlights. The cabin now comes with Audi’s Virtual Cockpit and the latest in connectivity technology, including swarm tech, Google Maps navigation and rear-seat tablet infotainment systems. The interior has been updated with more trim options.

The new Q5 will on sale later this year, with deliveries expected early 2017. Pricing starts at £39,000.
