The Award winning Ferrari 488 GTB

The team behind the Ferrari 488 GTB and 488 Spider engine recently picked up four awards at the 2016 Engine Expo in Stuttgart, securing its place as the best engine of the year.

The 488 GTB is the 7th descendant of the 1975 GTB, and follows Ferrari’s philosophy of mid-engined supercars. However the new model marks a major change for the company, moving away from the traditional naturally-aspirated V8.

The direct-injection 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 is a critically acclaimed masterpiece, and with good reason. The engine produces an impressive 661bhp and 560 ft lb of torque and is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The 488 GTB is capable of sprinting from 0-60mph in 3 seconds flat, 0-100mph in 6 seconds and has a stop speed of over 205mph.

The Ferrari sits on a lightweight aluminium tub with carbonfibre body parts to give the 488 stability and sharp handling. The car receives the latest Slip Slide Control software, complemented by active dampers, a F1-Trac stability system and E-Diff.

The design combines high performance aerodynamics with the classic Ferrari styling. The 488 front dual grille has two large air channels which are continued along the bonnet. The sides feature deeply sculpted air intakes for cooling. The rear has a blown spoiler to increase downforce and the rear diffuser has been redesigned for greater efficiency.

Internally, the car can be customised to the buyer’s specification and finished in premium leather and carbonfibre trims. The displays and tech in the cabin feature advanced technology, such as Vehicle Dynamic Assistance as well as a top-of-the-range infotainment system.

The award winning Ferrari 488 GTB is available now with pricing starting at £183,964.
