Budget 2015: £100m Funding for Driverless Cars has been Announced by the Chancellor.

The chancellor, George Osborne, has announced a £100m funding plan for autonomous cars with the UK aiming to become the leader in driverless technology. He explained that this funding will be used to both develop vehicles, as well as “the systems required to implement and adopt the technology, such as telecommunications.”

The Chancellor praised the increase in British manufacturing output, which is led by a buoyant car industry, and added that the output growth is four and half times faster than what it was a decade before the crisis.

He has also revealed that fuel duty is frozen again for the fifth year and for protecting the continued growth of low-emission cars, company car tax rates will rise slower that previously planned.  The good news continues with classic cars VED tax exemption changes applying to all cars registered before 1 January 1976.
