Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta sells for nearly £23 million at auction
Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta has sold for nearly £23 million making it officially the world’s most valuable car ever sold at auction.
The closing bid of £22,843,633 was taken yesterday at Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction as part of the Maranello Rosso Collection of 10 iconic Ferrari models during Monterey Car Week.
The two-seat Coupe beat the previous record holder, the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 R F1 Racer, by nearly £5 million and with bidders from all over the world attempting to snatch it up, it has made up well over half of the £39.5 million that the collection has raised at auction so far. This has gained the Ferrari 250 GTO the title of officially the world’s most valuable car sold at auction.
Bonhams Chairman Robert Brooks was more than pleased with the auction results stating “It’s been a genuine privilege to represent this outstanding car and we are absolutely delighted with today’s results.”
