Ferrari CEO confirms production of Ferrari SUV

Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne has confirmed a Ferrari SUV is on the way and should be out in less than three years.

Ferrari have bowed to pressure from the current boom in the luxury SUV market, in a bid to double profits by 2018. Marchionne released the information during a conference in New York, where he confirmed the FUV (Ferrari Utilitarian Vehicle) will be a four door model.

Whilst not everyone may agree with the SUV market, many luxury brands have managed to bolster their production and development budgets, to create cars their customers are asking for. Porsche for example continue to benefit from sales of the Cayenne and Macan, which has led to funding for creation of the 911 GT3 and 918 Spyder.

Despite Ferrari confirming they will respond to growing consumer demand, it is likely Ferrari won’t just put out an SUV like Bentley and Maserati have, they will undoubtedly try to create a new market segment that is more appropriate to Ferrari’s image.
