The Jaguar I-Pace
Jaguar has revealed the I-Pace concept car at the LA Auto Show. The I-Pace concept is an all-electric, battery-powered SUV, and previews the production model, which will land in 2018.
The all-new concept marks a change in direction for Jaguar – the production model in 2018 will be their first electric car. The new production model will rival Telsa, Mercedes and Porsche’s forthcoming electric models.
The new concept remains fairly similar in exterior design language to the current F-Pace, however the electric car features more internal space and slightly different proportions due to the major technological changes.
The concept is powered by a pair of electric motors, balanced at opposite ends, linked to a concentric-mounted transmission. The 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack is positioned low and integrated into the chassis structure. The electric SUV has a claimed range of 310 miles from one charge. The total power is 395bhp and 516lb ft of torque from the two compact motors.
The I-Pace also features double wishbone suspension and the usual Jaguar luxury infotainment systems. The production car for 2018 will have the most up-to-date technology and updated styling for the larger cabin that electric cells create.
Jaguar has confirmed that the production model will be unveiled in 2017 and the first deliveries for the I-Pace will start in 2018.
