Land Rover produce last ever UK Defender

The last of 2,016,933 UK-built Land Rover Defenders rolled off the production line in Solihull on the 29th January, marking the end of an era for the iconic model.

The original Land Rover has been in production for 68 years and has become one of the most recognisable and loved British vehicles across the world.  The Defender’s timeless charm is based on its reliability, broad appeal and diverse range of off-roading talents.

Last year the 2,000,000th Defender was built by Land Rover SVO and raised £400,000 for charity. However, due to its expensive production and incoming safety regulations, the Defender has been discontinued, at least for the time being.

Land Rover has plans to develop a replacement model that will be produced overseas, possibly as early as 2018.  But for now, the last UK Defender brings to an end a defining chapter in Britain’s proud motoring history.
