Maserati Alfieri Crowned ‘2014 Concept Car of the Year!’

The Maserati Alfieri coupe was announced last month as ‘2014 Concept Car of the Year’ and is scheduled for launch in 2016, with the convertible version due in 2017.

The eye-catching Alfieri, which is named after one of the brand founders, is being engineered as a rival to the sports car category, to challenge supercars such as the Porsche 911, Mercedes-AMG GT and Jaguar F-type.

Maserati Chief Marketing Officer, Saad Chehab, said that the Alfieri “is going to be a true sports car.” Even though it will offer a 2+2 seating arrangement, it’s more performance oriented and emphasis will be given on agility.

Power will come from a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine and buyers can choose from a mid-range model with 444 horsepower or a flagship that will pack a little over 510 horsepower.

Further details are expected to emerge in the months leading up to the Alfieri’s official introduction at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016.
