Maserati’s Five Year Plan

Maserati’s Five Year Plan

Maserati have approved the production of their new Alfieri sports car for 2016. The Alfieri was displayed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and will launch as a coupe next year, followed by a convertible model in 2017. The Alfieri model will rival the Jaguar F-type coupe and will use a modified platform from the Ghibli and Quattroporte models. The entry-level Alfieri will be offered as a rear wheel drive and be powered by a 404bhp turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine. At the top end of the range will be the all-wheel drive variants offered with 444bhp and 513bhp power outputs. These engines will be emulated across both the coupe and convertible models. The price of the Alfieri is expected to start at around £60,000.

The Italian firm has also announced plans for a new Granturismo in 2018. With the Alfieri range missing out on a V8 engine; this gives the all new Granturismo the opportunity to be the range topper. The new Granturismo is proposed to be a rear-wheel drive and will also be formed on the Ghibli/Quattroporte platform.

At present, there has been no indication of a replacement for the Grancabrio in Maserati’s five year plan and it may be decided the Alfieri convertible can compensate for this lack thereof. However, in 2015 a new SUV called the Levante is due to be launched and will be an exclusive rear-wheel drive with V6 petrol and diesel engines. By 2018, Maserati also intend to have expanded their Ghibli and Quattroporte models with a wider range of engine variants.

As a result of all these new models, Maserati aim to increase their sales from last year’s 15,000 units to 75,000 units by 2018. Maserati is confident they will have 100 per cent coverage in the luxury segment by 2018, as oppose to the less than 50% they had last year.
