McLaren P1 Owners Get Excited for the GTR

An official image of the upcoming McLaren P1 GTR track special has appeared online. The image has also been sent to all existing owners of the P1, by a McLaren dealership in Florida. The P1 GTR is powered by a 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine, capable of achieving 986bhp. The P1 GTR is anticipated to cost £1.98 million and will offer a higher powered performance, enhanced grip, improved down force and more track focused tyres than the standard P1 model. The P1 GTR comes with a fixed rear wing, instead of the auto deploying one from the standard model and has a more aggressive appearance. Only current P1 owners are eligible to buy the model, therefore exact production numbers remain uncertain. At present, all 375 existing P1 owners have been contacted regarding the new P1 GTR model and those who have expressed an interest have the option to put down a deposit. Production is expected to begin towards the middle of 2015, once the standard P1 production run has come to an end. 2015 will mark a significant year for McLaren as it is also the 20th anniversary of Le Mans winning F1 GTR. Buyers of this P1 GTR model will become part of the exclusive GTR programme. This offers owners discussions with the McLaren design director Frank Stephenson, training with fitness instructors from the F1 team and also access to F1 driving stimulators. In addition to this, owners will also be entitled to at least six track days at F1 tracks across the globe.
