McLaren unveil new 562bhp 570S Spider

McLaren has revealed the powerful new 570S Spider, the latest addition to its Sports Series supercar range.

The new convertible joins the 540C, 570S coupe and 570GT in the range, with McLaren claiming the Spider will match the performance of its coupe counterpart, in spite of the 46kg weight penalty for the folding roof.

The twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 is connected to a seven-speed automatic gearbox, delivering 562bhp and 600Nm of torque.  The 0-62mph sprint is covered 3.2 seconds, and the car can reach 204mph with the roof up – top speed is restricted to 196mph with the roof down.

There are a number of aerodynamic tweaks, including a rear spoiler that’s 12mm taller than the coupe’s, and the car comes with three new paint colours and a new 10-spoke alloy wheel design.  The roof takes 15 seconds to open or close and can be operated at speeds under 25mph.

The McLaren 570 Spider is on sale now, priced from £164,750, and will make its official debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of June.
