Meet the New Mercedes-Benz GLE.

 Meet the New Mercedes-Benz GLE.

The Mercedes GLE is the new name and face of the ML range, which will be revealed at the 2015 New York Motor Show.

The new GLE, considered to be the BMW X5 rival, has received updates both inside and out bringing it into line with Mercedes’ current design lines. At the front, there’s a new bumper, distinctive LED headlights, and beefy new front wings, while at the rear there’s LED tail lamps, integrated exhaust tailpipes and flashy chrome finishers.

The interior is similar to the current M-Class, but the new model features improved quality and a 7-inch display, a 360-degree reverse camera and traffic safety systems like Pre-Safe pedestrian protection braking and Cross Traffic Assist.

The GLE range benefits from a Dynamic Select handling control system that offers up to six drive programmes, can adjust the Airmatic suspension, and can also change how the ABS, ESP and traction control works, to maximise performance for varying conditions.

Engine options include a 201bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel in the GLE 250d, which is considered to be the greenest non-hybrid luxury SUV in the world, and returns up to 52.3mpg along with 140g/km CO2 emissions. Also available is the GLE 350d and the new plug-in hybrid variant, the GLE 500 e 4MATIC which is the first plug-in hybrid SUV in Mercedes-Benz’s history. The firm says that the GLE 500e 4MATIC will travel for up to 18.5 miles under fully electric power with CO2 emissions of 78g/km.

Sitting at the top of the new GLE range is the luxury AMG GLE 63 S super-SUV which is powered by Mercedes’ 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 and will manage 0-62mph in just 4.2sec.

Prices for the new GLE range are still unknown but are expected to start around £50,000 for the standard model and around £85,000 for the AMG.
