Mercedes-AMG announce new 402bhp E50 Coupe 4Matic

Timed to celebrate AMG’s 50th anniversary, the range-topping E50 Coupe 4Matic will be the stand-out model in the new E-Class Coupe line-up.

Due for release in the UK in the second half of 2017, the E50 Coupe will be among the first Mercedes models to receive the all-new M256 in-line six-cylinder petrol engine.  As standard, the 3.0-litre, electrically turbocharged unit outputs 402bhp, but this may be increased slightly for the E50 Coupe.  Power will be delivered through a 9G-Tronic, nine-speed automatic transmission.

The new E-Class Coupe range will include five models at launch, with a choice of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.  Compared with the C-Class Coupe, the new model is 141mm longer, 50mm wider and 25mm higher.

Internally, the Coupe shares many of the E-Class saloon’s appointments, with the addition of  integral front sports seats, electric feeder arms for the front seat belts and distinctive new air vents within the facia.

Mercedes are also planning a new E-Class cabriolet, which will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March 2017.
