Mercedes four-door AMG GT Coupe set for Geneva reveal
Images of Mercedes-AMG’s eagerly anticipated hybrid saloon have been released, ahead of its official reveal at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
The latest sports saloon will feature AMG’s 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which will be supplemented by an electric motor, raising the combined power output to around 800bhp. All this power will be delivered through a nine-speed automatic gearbox, as well as Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. This should all add up to some impressive performance figures, with AMG aiming for a sub three seconds 0-62mph time.
Despite its name, the saloon will not be based on the two-door AMG GT. Instead, the four-door GT Coupe will use a modified version of the MRA platform from the current Mercedes-Benz saloon offerings. Thankfully, the styling hasn’t strayed too far from the original concept car, as the disguised mule retains a long, low body shape and slim LED tail lights. The mule can also be seen sporting the AMG Panamerica grille, as well as carbon-ceramic breaks with large gold calipers.
The new model is due to go on sale in September 2018.
