Mercedes reveal new 621bhp S65 AMG Cabriolet

Mercedes-Benz will debut the new AMG S65 Cabriolet at the Detroit motor show in January, with first deliveries expected in April 2016.

The latest addition to the Mercedes range will be powered by a twin-turbo, 6.0-litre V12 engine, delivering 621bhp and 737lb ft of torque. The hand-built AMG engine is capable of 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 155mph. With the AMG Driver’s pack, this is boosted to 186mph. The four-seat convertible features a seven-speed automatic gearbox with three different driving modes, sports air suspension, forged alloys and optional composite brakes.

The multi-layer fabric roof comes in a choice of dark red, black, dark blue or beige finishes, and can be opened and closed in a mere 17 seconds, at speeds up to 31mph. Visually the AMG S65 is bold and luxurious, with abundant chrome detailing, a unique wheel design, lightweight aluminium/magnesium body panels, and distinctive V12 bi-turbo badges. Internally, the cabin is finished in opulent style, with heated leather sport seats, a Burmeister 3D stereo, Mercedes’ ‘airscarf’ backrests and a head-up display.

Prices are yet to be confirmed, but are likely to be higher than the £183,000 S65 Coupe.
