The new 2017 Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet

Audi are extending the A5 and S5 range to include Cabriolet models for 2017. The new drop top A5 and high performance S5 will make their debut at the LA Auto Show.

The new four-seater Audi convertibles will share much of its genetics with the new A5 Coupe, featuring the same high-strength platform and similar styling. The new 2017 models are lighter, longer and have 40% more structural rigidity, improving handling.

The A5 exterior styling is the virtually the same as the Coupe, with sharp sleek lines and LED headlights. The S5 receives styling upgrades, including larger bumpers, quad-exhaust tips, wider five-spoke alloy wheels and silver detailing.

The cabin receives a 8.3-inch central display as well as Audi’s 12.3-inch virtual cockpit instrument display. The car features in-car WiFi hotspot, a LTE module enabling Audi Connect services and MMI navigation.

The Cabriolet A5 and S5 feature an all-electric roof and to reduce weight now have canvas soft-top folding roofs. The roof can be deployed at up to 31mph and it takes 15 seconds to drop and 18 seconds to raise the roof again.

The range-topping powertrain is the S5 Cabriolet which runs on a 3.0-litre 349bhp TFSI V6 engine capable of 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds with a limited top speed of 155mph. The A5 line-up features a choice of 5 engines, ranging from a 187bhp 2.0-litre TFSI to a 3.0-litre 282bhp TDI. Depending on engine specification the car is fitted with a six-speed manual, seven-speed S-tronic twin-clutch or  eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. There is a choice of front wheel drive or Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive.

The A5 and S5 Cabriolet will make its public debut at the LA Auto Show and will be launched in the UK in March 2017. Pricing and specification details are yet to be revealed.
