New and Improved M4

New and Improved M4

BMW have revealed their new M4 convertible which is set to make its debut at the New York Motor Show, before going on sale in the UK in September. The M4 is claimed to be performance orientated with prices expected to start from £60,730 for the 425bhp model. The M4 is a four-seater hard top convertible powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine. Styling modifications have been made to the M4, including more prominent bonnet contouring, improvements to the integration of the air intakes and a well-structured front bumper with improved engine cooling ducts. The M4 is to be offered in the UK with 19-inch alloy wheels and its dimensions are as follows; 4670mm in length, 1870mm in width and 1386mm high. This makes the M4 longer, wider and lower than the former model. The convertible roof can be activated from the touch of a button and takes 20 seconds to fold up or down, however this time is shortened as the car reaches 11mph. The boot capacity for the M4 is greater than its predecessor at 370 litres with the roof up, or 220 litres with it down. The M4 has upgrades including heated sport seats, an M-style steering wheel, chrome trims, a BMW professional media package, upgraded Bluetooth, USB functionality, folding mirrors and both front and rear parking sensors. The new M4 weighs just 1750kg, which is 60kg lighter than before. This has positively impacted the performance as the 6-speed manual M4 can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds, whilst the 7-speed dual clutch automatic is 0.2 seconds faster, with both models maintaining the same top speed of 155mph. The M4 is offered with three driving modes; Comfort, Sport and Sport+, thus improving the driving experience. The suspension has also been refined therefore enhancing the precision, handling and fuel efficiency.
