New Continental GT will be the most high-tech Bentley yet

The second-generation Continental GT will feature a host of engineering and technology upgrades, making it the most advanced Bentley to date.

Due out in 2018, the new model will be built on a completely new platform, jointly developed with Porsche.  There will be an open-top GTC option, and the powertrain selection will include a new petrol-electric hybrid unit, offering the potential for zero-emissions driving.

The twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 petrol engine will be upgraded to include a particulate filter, to meet the EU’s stringent new emissions standards due in 2021.  This means the new car will still be capable of 0-62mph in less than 4.0sec, reaching a top speed of over 190mph.

Autonomous driving technology will be included, and the car will have scope for rear and four wheel-drive options.  Further improvements include rear-wheel steering for extra agility and a new air suspension system for a more luxurious ride.

Full spec and pricing details will be released when the new Continental GT debuts at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
