New marque Lynk & Co reveals first model
New marque, Lynk & Co has officially unveiled its first car in Berlin. The brand hopes to revolutionise the industry with its first offering, the ‘01’ SUV.
The marque is Chinese-owned and backed by Geely, with the new model designed and engineered in Sweden. The 01 will be sold throughout Europe, the US and China, and will target the stylish, tech-savvy generation.
The 01 SUV is mid-sized and claims to be the best connected car on the market, featuring advanced technology throughout. The car has a large, dark grille that stretches the length of the front, full resolution daytime headlights and a Porsche-like angular bonnet. The cabin features a central 10.1-inch touchscreen which is constantly connected to the internet and Lynk & Co’s own cloud. The car is compatible with Apple Carplay, MirrorLink and Android systems.
The SUV has a ‘Digital Key’ that the owner can share with others to give them access to the car, and the SUV can be controlled by the user’s smartphone via the Lynk & Co App. It will come with blind spot detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and autonomous braking systems.
The new marque’s logo is styled in matt and gloss textures that intertwine to represent the fusion of European and Chinese influence.
The SUV is built on a modular structure and will be powered by a range of electrified, plug-in hybrid and hybrid engines. The first models will be available with Volvo’s 1.5-litre three cylinder engine and a four cylinder diesel.
The brand aims to offer premium specification and trims at reasonable prices. Lynk & Co hopes to offer ‘untraditional’ ownership later, with car-sharing or subscription schemes. The company will offer up third-party development and personalisation for their cars.
Pricing and trim specification levels will be announced later. China’s order books will open in 2017, with the UK seeing first deliveries in late 2018.
