New Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic
Mercedes-AMG has announced the addition of a mid-sized SUV to the AMG 43 4Matric range. The GLC 43 will debut at the New York Auto Show, and will sit alongside the new E43, SLC43 and C43.
The range-topping GLC 43 will be powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, producing 362bhp and 384lb ft of torque, using ‘Nanoslide’ cylinder liners for reduced friction. Performance for the new SUV is quoted at 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system, with a rear biased torque split sending 69 percent to the back wheels and 31 percent to the front.
The car receives a 9G-Tronic, nine-speed automatic gearbox as standard, complete with AMG’s Dynamic Select, which offers 5 different driving modes; Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. Tweaks have been made to the Air Body Control air-suspension system and Speed-sensitive power steering, to adapt to the increased power output. Changes include 3 adaptive damping modes, air springs and more rigid axles. The chassis has been reworked to incorporate new steering knuckles, and 360mm steel disc brakes with four-piston callipers have been added to the front (320mm discs at the rear).
Externally, the body-kit has been altered for the new SUV, which receives the blade grille, a pronounced skid plate, new front bumper with larger air intakes, reworked rear bumper and 4 trapezoidal rear tailpipes, surrounded by a chrome trim. Internally, the cabin is fitted with sports seats, finished in leather and microfibre, with revised instruments and a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel with contrasting red stitching.
The GLC 43 4Matic will go on sale in the UK in June, with a starting price of £48,000.
