New Record set at Nürburgring Lap by Range Rover Sport SVR

The 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR  has set a new record at Nürburgring completing the 12.9 mile Norschleife course in only 8mins 14sec, making it the fastest production SUV to travel around the circuit. As the product of Jaguar Land Rover’s new Special Vehicle Operations Team, the Sport SVR boasts a 542bhp supercharged 5-litre V8 engine accelerating from 0-62mph in 4.8secs.

This impressive addition to the Range Rover family was recently brought to the industries attention at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The model is scheduled to arrive in showrooms from early 2015 and will be priced around £100,000. The SVR boasts the advantages of a body kit comprising of quad rear exhausts, wider air intakes and a rear diffuser.  It features a twin-speed transfer case, providing a choice of high and low gear ratios, the same off-roading ability maintaining land rovers 851mm water wading depth.

Mike Cross, Chief Engineer for Vehicle Integrity at Jaguar Land Rover commented on the achievement noting the Nurburgring’s benchmark status for vehicle development testing and stating that the aim of the trial was to see if an SUV such as the Ranger Rover SVR can behave like a performance car in such a challenging environment, whilst maintaining its off-roading specialities.
