New Tesla Model 3 unveiled

The new Model 3 is the entry level vehicle in the Tesla range, it was officially revealed today in California by CEO Elon Musk.

The Model 3 is the 4th all-electric car from Tesla, it makes significant in-roads to introducing long-range electrical cars that are practical and affordable. The new model uses lithium-ion batteries and is capable of travelling upwards of 215 miles from one charge. All Model 3’s will be able to use Tesla’s network of 3600 superchargers worldwide for free, they hope to double this number by 2017.

Performance is still to be confirmed however the Model 3 will be capable of 0-62mph in less than six seconds and all-wheel drive will be offered. The five seater car has plenty of cabin space for front and rear passengers due to the lack of combustion engine. There is also added storage capacity, one boot at the front and one at the rear. Internally the cabin receives a continuous glass roof, advanced autopilot as well as a modern a tablet-style dash-mounted infotainment system.

In less than 24 hours the new Model 3 had received 115,000 pre-orders worldwide. The deposit for a new Tesla Model 3 in the UK is £1000 and the total cost is £24,216. Deliveries are expected to start in late 2017
