Porsche 911 GT2 RS laps the Nurburgring in 6:47.3

Porsche have dominated the Nurburgring by setting a new record time for a road-approved sports car.

The new 911 GT2 RS officially lapped the 12.9-mile track in 6 minutes, 47.3 seconds. This shock record time even surpassed Porsche’s expectations; with the development team Vice President claiming: “At the start of the development process, we set ourselves a lap time target for the GT2 RS of less than 7 minutes and 5 seconds. The credit for beating this target by 17.7 seconds goes to our development engineers, mechanics and drivers, who demonstrated an exceptionally strong team performance. This result makes it official: The GT2 RS is not only the most powerful, but also the fastest 911 ever built.”

This feat puts the 911 GT2 RS ahead of the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s lap time of 6:52 and obliterates both the 911 GT3’s time of 7:12 and the previous generation GT2 RS’s time of 7:18.

This new record demonstrates the performance and technological gains that have been developed and applied to the latest 911 GT2 RS, making this the fastest 911 to date.
