Porsche Plan for a Cayenne Coupe
Porsche have been making plans for a new 5-door Cayenne Coupe and the design pitches are already at an advanced stage. In relation to the regular Cayenne, this new model would be positioned as a sporting alternative. The Cayenne Coupe would be offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines. Furthermore, the model would receive a plug-in petrol-electric and diesel-electric hybrid powertrain. The Cayenne Coupe is one of seven new SUV’s using the new version of the Volkswagen Groups MLB platform. Porsche are hesitant to confirm too much at this point, however the Cayenne Coupe is scheduled for 2018 and is to rival the likes of the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz MLC and the Range Rover Sport. Porsche claim they have been considering this model for some time; however there are difficulties as they have limited production capacity at their Leipzig factory and strong sales of the current Cayenne. Porsche intend to increase their investment into production capacity when the third generation Cayenne arrives in 2017. Porsche want to ensure they uphold their exclusivity of the 911, Cayman and Boxster sports cars as they begin to expand their SUV range. With regards to the styling of the Cayenne Coupe, it is intended to be much edgier and inspired by the 918 Spyder, with a much smoother roofline and a more prominent sloping rear end. Inside, the Coupe will share its design with the new Cayenne which is due a facelift and again this will be influenced by the 918 Spyder. The chassis will be refined at Nürburgring with Porsche highlighting the Cayenne Coupe’s sporting intentions. The price of the Cayenne Coupe is anticipated to be 15-20 per cent more than the current Cayenne model, giving it an entry-level price of around £50,000 for the 3.0-litre petrol V6 variant.
