Rare Porsche 901 Cabriolet set for auction

This stunning pre-production Porsche 901 Cabriolet prototype will be auctioned by RM Sotheby on the 8th February at its Paris sale.

The original, one-off Porsche was built by coachbuilder, Karmann and carries an estimate of €850K – €1 million.  Of the 82 901s built, it is believed only 30 or so remain, including just two pre-production cars – this Cabriolet and a slightly older Coupe.  Porsche’s engineers decided the car was not viable, due to the extra weight required for strengthening, so it didn’t go into production.

Although offered in a fully working condition, the car is a little rough around the edges, with no roof included (the original soft-top has been lost) and perspex side windows.
