The rear-wheel drive Lamborghini Huracan Spyder

Lamborghini announced during the LA Auto Show that the Huracan Spyder will now be available in rear-wheel drive for the first time.

The new drop-top model offers the best of both worlds, with fun open-top driving and the purity of rear-wheel handling. The new model is based on the same LP580-2 fundamental, with double wishbone suspension and magnetorheological dampers. The chassis has been tweaked to enhance RWD experience, including alterations to the chassis control system, steering, active dampers and the stability systems.

The Spyder runs on the same naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine producing 572bhp and 397lb ft of torque. The RWD Spyder is capable of 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 198mph. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven speed double clutch transmission.

The car is slightly heavier than its siblings, weighing in at 1509kg, however it also receives optimised anti-roll bars and springs. The RWD model has new rear fins, larger air intakes, removable windguards and bespoke 19-inch alloy wheels.

The RWD Huracan Spyder will go on sale in January 2017. Pricing and specification are still to be confirmed, however for the range-topper expect a £200,000 price tag.
