Record £1.8m for Porsche 993 GT2

A 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 has sold for a record £1,848,000 at RM Sotheby’s London auction, smashing its £750K – £850K estimate.

The landmark sale reflects the market demand for air-cooled Porsches, which has surged in recent years.

The homologation 911 GT2 was built to meet the requirement for a rear-wheel drive 993 Turbo, for use in various racing series. With the weight saved from ditching the standard four-wheel drive, and power increased to 430bhp, the GT2 became one of the most successful racers of the era.

The exceptional Riviera Blue example offered in London boasted just one owner and a mere 12,730km. The left-hand drive model is one of only 57 road cars ever built, and was offered in completely original spec, with a certificate of authenticity from Porsche and a full history record.
