Road-legal McLaren P1 GTR announced

Road-legal McLaren P1 GTR announced.

Responding to demand from customers who purchased the track-only version, Hampshire-based specialists, Lanzante have announced they will convert the 986bhp McLaren P1 GTR for road use.

McLaren sold over 40 £1.98m P1 GTRs, which were offered exclusively to existing P1 road car owners.  Due to the complexity of customer requirements, the price of conversions and the modification spec have not been revealed.

Dean Lanzante said, “We will be tackling all conversions on a case-by-case basis”.  “What we do will depend on where the customer wants to run the car and what the regulations are in that region. But whatever we do, it will always be done sympathetically; the GTR has been built to be a step beyond the P1, we’re trying to keep as much of that spirit as we can. It will still be lighter, have more power, better aero and so on.”

McLaren are believed to have given the project their blessing and support, but neither the factory nor its MSO division will be directly involved.  The first conversions are expected to meet European and Middle Eastern road regulations, with conversions for other parts of the world under investigation.

Lanzante expect to start work mid-year on the first conversion, with the completion date dependent on the time required to process the regulatory paperwork.
