Slimmer BMW 7 Series for 2015

The new BMW 7 Series for 2015 is expected to be slimmed down using technology developed for the BMW i brand. The BMW Group Design Director, Adrian van Hooydonk, has spoken about how much they have learned from the i brand, particularly the usage of carbon fibre, which is intended to be introduced into the other brands in the future. Although, Adrian van Hoyydonk didn’t confirm which model was expected to receive the i brand technology first, a spokesperson has confirmed it is most likely to be the new 7 Series models, and then into the rest of the range. This reduction in weight will also help to lower emissions and thus improve fuel efficiency, without BMW needing to modify the engine or other significant parts. The current drivetrain technology in the i3 and i8 models is also anticipated to be brought into the other BMW models. Adrian van Hooydonk believes that one day the seamless changes between electric and petrol power will be quite normal. Van Hooydonk also believes there is an opportunity for the i range to expand even further in the future.
