The new 429bhp Audi SQ7 TDI

Audi has revealed its innovative new SUV; the SQ7 TDI. The new model is the fastest Q7 yet, and features advanced tech, including the world’s first electrically-powered supercharging technology in a production car.

The powerful new Audi features a redeveloped 4.0-litre V8 turbo diesel powertrain, with two sequential exhaust turbochargers in a ‘hot vee’ arrangement. Most notably, the world’s first electric-powered compressor is used to support and boost the traditional turbos. The electrically-driven centrifugal supercharger is mounted downstream of the intercoolers. Powered by a 48-volt electrical subsystem, it has a 250ms response time and can be used anytime to boost flat spots and eliminate turbo lag.

The new electric compressor and the two turbos are used in conjunction with Audi’s Valvelift system (AVS), resulting in an impressive power output of 429bhp and 663.8lb ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox, delivering 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. The high performance SUV competes with the likes of Range Rover’s Sport SVR and Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo, with improved economy, quoted at 38.2mpg.

The SQ7 TDI also features a decoupled electromechanical active body roll stabilisation system for improved handling and increased comfort. Restyling includes new tailpipes, alloy wheels, bumper alterations and LED headlights. Internally there’s a choice of 5 or 7 seat layouts and an optional Virtual Cockpit.

Orders can be placed this Spring, with the first UK deliveries expected in August 2016. Pricing will start at £70,000.
