The new Mercedes-AMG E43 4Matic

Following the release of the updated E-class, AMG has revealed the new 396bhp Mercedes-AMG E43 4Matic ahead of its debut at the New York Motor Show.

The high performance version of the E43 features a tweaked and tuned twin-turbo 3.0-litre petrol V6 engine, with larger turbochargers to boost pressure.  Performance stats are 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds, with a limited top speed of 155mph.  There’s a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic gearbox, sending power to all four-wheels via Mercede’s new 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.  Torque is distributed prominently to the rear wheels in a 31:69 front-rear split.

AMG Dynamic Select offers a range of configurations for steering, suspension, engine and transmission, from Eco to Sport Plus modes.  The steering can be set to two different weight modes, Sport or Comfort, and the Air Body Control suspension and active damping have been retuned.  There are four-piston calipers at the front and single-piston calipers at the rear, with 360mm steel discs all round.

Externally, the E43 4Matic gets a new grille design, bespoke 19 inch wheels, chrome-plated exhaust tips, and a small diffuser in the rear bumper.  Internally, there are a number of distinctive upgrades, including red seatbelts, extended leather trim and red stitching.  Luxury optional specification will be available at a premium.

The new AMG will debut in New York later this month, before going on sale in September.  Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to be above the £50,000 mark.
