The new Mercedes-AMG V8 C63 Cabriolet

Mercedes-AMG unveiled the drop-top version of the C63 coupe at the New York Auto Show. The new AMG C63 Cabriolet is the 4th in the range to get the special AMG treatment.

The new soft-top comes in two models, the regular C63 Cabriolet and the C63 S. Both models are powered by the same twin-turbo ‘hot vee’ 4-litre V8 engine, which drives power to the rear wheels via a Speedshift 7-speed automatic transmission, linked to a limited-slip differential.

The C63 Cabriolet produces 469bhp with 470lb ft of torque, sprinting from 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds with a limited top speed of 155mph. The C63 S puts out an increased 503bhp with 516lb ft of torque, dropping the 0-62mph time to 4.1 seconds.

The AMG convertible features an electric-powered, multi-layered fabric roof which can be raised and lowered at up to 31mph. The roof comes in a choice of four colours; black, dark brown, dark blue and dark red.

The car receives active dampers with three driving modes, ranging from Comfort to Sport+ and an optional performance exhaust system. Internally the C63 Cabriolet is finished in a combination of leather and aluminium trim with sports seats as standard and performance seats as optional extras.

Pricing is still to be confirmed for the convertible, however a small premium can be expected over that of the £70k C63 Coupe.
