Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 Roundup

Last weekend brought another spectacular event at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for their annual car show. This year saw plenty of fascinating cars from the past, present and the future at this ultimate summer garden party.

Amongst the excitement of the wealth of entertainment, as always, this event is the prime opportunity to be the first to see upcoming vehicles as their initial public debut. With this in mind, we highlight just some of the models that were launched at the festival below.

Alfa Romeo Tonale

A small SUV that was first revealed in February 2022 as the Italian automaker’s first electric vehicle, but it made its UK debut as the weekend at the festival.  Promising record-breaking technology, including the built-in Alexa voice assistant and exclusive Amazon services, this model is due to be released for ordering any time now as it was scheduled in for Summer 2022.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage

Aston Martin V12 Vantage

The Aston Martin V12 Vantage was first revealed in March 2022 and is the final car to feature the brand’s in-house-developed 5.2-litre V12 engine. The new model boasts 690bhp and will sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.5 seconds. However, all 333 examples of the limited edition V12 Vantage sold ahead of its reveal.

Bentley Continental GTC Mulliner W12

This new Bentley Continental GT Mulliner W12 is the most recent addition to the brand’s line-up and is equipped with the 6.0-litre W12 engine from the GT Speed.

The high-performance coupe’s cabin features diamond-in-diamond quilting on the seats, doors, and rear quarter panels made up of both contrast and accent stitching. All up Bentley claims there are 400,000 stitches throughout the interior. As a Mulliner model, buyers of this range-topping coupe can customise their vehicle from a wide selection of paint, leather, wood, metal, and stitching combinations.

Range Rover Sport

The new-generation Range Rover Sport made its debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Headline features for the new Sport include a longer-range six-cylinder plug-in hybrid and a twin-turbocharged V8, alongside six-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol and diesel cars. A fully electric Range Rover Sport has also been confirmed.

Much of the recently revealed range is now available to order, with local deliveries starting in the fourth quarter of 2022. The inline six-cylinder petrol engines will arrive a bit later in 2023, while the electric model will be revealed in 2024.

Lexus Electrified Sport Concept

The mooted electric successor the Lexus’s iconic LFA V10 supercar is made its first appearance outside of Japan at the Festival of Speed.

Lexus itself calls the Electrified Sport concept a “vision for a future all-electric high-performance sports car – seen by many as a potential successor to the legendary Lexus LFA”.

Lexus suggests the acceleration time to 100km/h is expected to be in the low two-second range and says the car will have a driving range of more than 700km.

McLaren Artura GT4

The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar is making its dynamic debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Essentially a Formula 1 car for the road, the Mercedes-AMG One is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid V6 engine and four electric motors. Total system output is 782kW of power.

Initially meant to launch in 2019, this has been held back due to the challenge of making a powertrain derived from F1 work on the road, and having it meet ever-tightening emissions standards.

Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance racer is another model to have made its in-person debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Cayman GT4 ePerformance is a follow-up to its Mission R concept car and packs a dual-electric motor setup producing 735kW of power in its most powerful mode. The battery pack and electric motor are based on those of the concept car, which itself borrowed from the Taycan. Under the skin, however, it’s built on the bones of the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
